Environment Agency LGBT+ Network
The LGBT+ Network: Helping people be themselves.
The Network grows daily. Currently at 192 members. We also have over 1350 Friends of the Network; a hugely significant achievement as we rely heavily on our visible friends in the workplace to make the Environment Agency (EA) a great place for LGBT+ staff to work. The results of the 2016 Employee Survey show the Network is having a direct impact on staff wellbeing; 90% of LGB respondents felt the EA is committed to diversity and equality at work and 84% stated they were treated fairly at work. LGB employees also scored the highest (77%) in their loyalty to the EA. Other examples of LGB staff scoring higher than the EA overall was in telling others they are proud to work for the EA and that they would recommend it as a good place to work. This highlights the impact of the Network in providing visibility and support for LGBT+ staff.
Stonewall’s Workplace Equality Index Top 100 list is used as a measure of success in employment policy and practice for LGBT+ staff; a prestigious and highly competitive process. Through the work of the LGBT+ Network the EA has achieved a top 100 placing for 12 consecutive years. In the past four years our success has increased from 72nd place in 2016 to 13th place in 2019. Such a high ranking in the WEI is a huge achievement for a public sector body competing against the bigger funding pots of private sector companies. This significantly raises the profile of the EA nationally as an employer of choice and as an employer committed to EDI. This benefits people across the whole organisation.
This year the Network were also awarded the “Highly Commended Network Group” after Stonewall’s assessment of our inclusion work delivered in 2018.
