HMRC Carers Network

HMRC Carers Network

The Carers Network formed in 2010 to empower and support carers to create a supportive community helping each other. It demonstrates HMRC’s commitment to support working carers contributing to the achievement of the HMRC’s Strategic Objective: To create a more inclusive organisation which represents and values the diversity of all employees. As well as more carers being able to remain in the workforce and reducing loss of experience. The network is sponsored by a Director General Carers Champion and supported by a Committee whose membership is made up of volunteers, from each of HMRC’s 13 regional sites, who have experience of being a working carer and passionate about contributing their knowledge to help support others and raise awareness of carers issues in HMRC. The network also has a thriving Google community and the membership continues to grow in size and strength, having increased from just a couple of hundred people in 2016 to an impressive 900+ people in the last quarter of 2018. The Network is a supportive environment, reduced isolation of carers and identified issues which impact on their ability to manage caring and working. Network achievements in 2017/18 include: Monthly Carers Support Dial Ins, connecting carers and mutual support / empathy. Awareness of what it’s like to be a carer publicised on Intranet during Carers Week and Carers Rights Day. The emotional wellbeing of carers was highlighted by various published stories how carers coped. Successful launch and take up of the new Civil Service Carers Passport. Carers Network members views helping to inform ‘Smarter Working Project’. Carers awareness training pack shared with Cabinet Office Civil Service Carers Network – this innovation adopted and now used in 10 government departments. Successful rollout carers awareness training presentation to managers across the regions. Attendance at Director SLT’s to deliver awareness sessions
